Bits of Mind

Small bits of data. Big ideas for your mind.

  • You know those moments when your phone’s photo app magically creates a slideshow of your cat and sets it to dramatic piano music?

Yeah… AI is everywhere. It’s picking our playlists, diagnosing diseases, and sometimes even writing terrible poems about love and pizza (thanks, ChatGPT).

And here I am, a human — an electrical engineer by education — who somehow spent the last couple of decades working in the business side of technology rather than crunching equations or building robots.
Now, I’ve decided it’s time to turn the tables: to stop just watching the AI revolution from the sidelines and actually understand what’s happening under the hood.

So, welcome to Bits of Mind — my little experiment, playground, and accountability buddy rolled into one.

Why I’m Doing This (and Why It Scares Me)

I’m writing this blog for one very selfish reason: to challenge myself.

For years, I’ve been surrounded by data, tech, and big ideas in my work — but like a lot of us, I sometimes treated AI and data science like magic tricks:

“Wow, that’s impressive… but please don’t make me explain how it works.”

    Well, no more.

This blog is my way of forcing myself to learn, one post at a time, by taking complex AI concepts and breaking them down so even I can understand them — and hopefully, so can you.
Along the way, I’ll share my discoveries, questions, facepalms, and probably a few bad analogies. (Be prepared for at least one “neural network as a bakery” metaphor.)

    Why Bits of Mind?

The name comes from two places:

    • Bits – the smallest units of data, the digital building blocks of AI.
    • Mind – our messy, wonderful human thinking.

This blog lives in the space where those two collide: humans trying to stay thoughtful while machines get smarter by the day.

    Your Turn

Since this is the start of something new, I’d love to hear from you:
What’s the one thing about AI or data that confuses, excites, or terrifies you the most?
Drop it in the comments — I’ll tackle it in a future post (or at least try not to run away screaming).

So here’s to growing our human brains, one bit at a time — while the machines keep doing their thing.
Welcome to Bits of Mind. 🧠✨
